Pre-Holiday Project
1.
An hour glass. Though it is not really an hour glass. It is more closer to a minute glass.
2. Get 2 empty and clean plastic bottles (8 oz. works great). Fill one of the bottles with sand (can be colored). Use a 2 or 3 hole button to slow down the draining of the sand. Put the button between the 2 bottles and then, after putting the 2nd bottle on top of the other, tape them together.
3. Materials: 2 clear plastic bottles. Sand (can be colored). A button. Clear Tape.
4. Precision and accuracy. Had to be perfectly aligned or would not work right and fall over.
5. Enjoyed playing with the sand some. Was challenging to get it all lined up and just perfect, it took me several attempts.
6. I think what I did well was getting it lined up perfectly. the sand flows smoothly and it is not leaning in anyway.
Elements and Principals of Design...
Balance: Used 2 bottles of the same design.
Symmetrical Balance: I believe it is balanced when the sand is half and half between the 2 bottles.
Contrast: Not really any contrast as there is not much in the way of color or design. But one bottle is relatively clean when empty of sand while the other holds onto the sand making it blue.
Pattern: No pattern.
Proportion: The bottle are of the same size.
Rhythm & Movement: The only movement in my craft is the smooth flow of sand as it falls from one bottle to the next.
Emphasis: Is on the blue sand. Rather than using regular old boring sand.
Unity: There is unity in the 2 bottles and the cardboard with the hole in it. Together they work to make a minute glass.
